The Adoption Information Clearinghouse is sponsored by the AAAA as a free service to all adoption professionals. The Academy is a non-profit association of attorneys, judges, and law school
professors who practice, or have otherwise distinguished themselves, in the field of adoption law.
Its mission is to support the rights of children to live in safe, permanent homes with loving
families, to ensure full consideration of the interests of all parties to adoptions, and to assist
in the orderly and legal process of adoption. Fellows of the Academy represent adoptive parents,
birth parents, adoption agencies and others involved in adoptions; and they must maintain their
practice according to the highest standards of professionalism, competence and ethics.

Fellows of the Academy have an ethical duty to actively discourage fraud or misrepresentation and to take all reasonable measures not inconsistent with the confidentiality of the attorney/client relationship to prevent adoption fraud or misrepresentation. By utilization of services offered through the Adoption Information Clearinghouse, the Academy, affiliated adoption agencies and other providers of adoption services will further be assisted in the discharge of this duty in an ethical and professional manner. They will be able to offer greater protection to prospective adoptive parents without violating the attorney/client privilege, and with minimal intrusiveness into the privacy of prospective placing parents.
